Cold Sober Comic Book Thoughts. N’uff Said.

Image
Comic books. I’ve always loved them. From the easy read to the shattering thought provoking, I’ve always been amazed at how beautiful the medium could be both visually and literarily. I’d be lying if I didn’t say super hero comics were my first touch with questions about philosophy morality about what is right and wrong (As Uncle Ben would always adage, “With great power, there must also come great responsibility”).   (Eventually Uncle ben would say it... in every flashback ever.) So I like to keep reading them, which being a Spider-Man fan can be a roller coaster ride of false hope and pain for the last 20 years, but I trudge through. This is what brings me two things I’ve really enjoyed reading recently: Spider-Man Holiday Spectacular (SMHS going forward) and Venom: Black White and Red (VBWR). Both are examinations of these characters In small, isolated stories that reall...

Gaming Briefs wearing Boxers for November 20th + Xbox Partner Preview

Image
Ubisoft has first delayed, then canceled its quarterly fiscal report, and then halts stock trading, causing everyone to speculate that the company, that’s been struggling for several reasons the last few years, has been sold. To Who? Nothing solid on that until Ubisoft speaks up.                 In unfortunate news, game dev legend Rebecca Heineman passed this week, losing a fight with cancer. The story of how the shit show she had to go through single handedly porting DOOM to the 3DO will always live on in legend.                   Not much else really caught my eye on the news front this week outside of the Valve hardware announcement (Which I also covered on this blog), so right into the Xbox Partner Preview Xbox has had a hard… decade in getting any hype out of me but with this preview I was already hit strong by its opening salvo of Armatu...

Spidey-hawk Pro Skater

I try my hand at some toy/figure photography every now and then, and after a friend of mine mentioned tech decks It gave me a really silly idea that makes me thankful no one sees my blogposts.  That's all. Check it out though, I like how the shots came out.  -Mega

Breaking Boxers News: Valve announces new Hardware

Image
Valve came out choosing violence yesterday   with an announcement of NEW hardware, A slightly improved Steam Deck SKU, a Steam Machine console-adjacent PC, a new Steam Controller, and what I thought was the most exciting, a new VR headset that seems to defy current conventions by refining VR technology and making it excitingly better.  The Steam Frame Man, this thing is pretty damn cool, its small, wireless, and rather than some grand new aspect of tech, it reads more like existing VR tech extremely refined for purpose, games and wearable comfort. From the get-go it looks focused on ease of use and set up, managing to broadcast across a 6ghz signal from a dongle for audio and video signal on PC, tracking cameras on the inside for your eyes, and monochrome cameras on the outside for movement and head tracking, while being pretty damn lightweight at only 440g. Pancake Lenses with 2160 x 2160 with 72 -144hz refresh rate LCD panels (Better choice considering how OLE...

Gaming Briefs wearing Boxers November 10th, 2025

It’s been a while since I’ve managed to crack one of these out, but a few things have caught my attention this week, sad, hilarious in one case, and interesting.           Halo infinite getting its last major update, not quite on life support yet.     Operation: Infinite comes after last weeks announcement the Halo: CE remake announced for PC, Xbox and Playstation 5 (The Console Wars have Ended.) The update even cites working on multiple Halo titles as the reason, needing all hands on deck for these new titles.  The Operation: Infinite update includes a 100 tier Operation Pass with this  ornate Serpin armor set as its ultimate goal.           Along with the preview, they went the continued Roadmap, citing Challenges and Ranked Seasons continuing and then into a heartfelt thanks to the community for its continued support and all the creativity and fun they had in the games lifetime. ...

Mega's Totally Sober Review: Ruffy and the Riverside

Image
(I wrote this back at the end of June, the site I was doing it for ended up falling through, so here it is.) Steam code was received for purpose of review. Started playing on Version 2025-06-18.0. My overall impression for Ruffy and the Riverside brings direct words of “FUN”, “JOY” and “CREATIVITY”.   The open world that is Riverside led my curiosity to explore and see where all the little things to open and solve are, which is contrast to something like my experience playing Yooka-Laylee, where each level felt almost overwhelmingly big, despite being contained. Early on I spent literal hours just running around and finding out what I could already solve on my own before even getting to the Buried Cities to unlock the first level of the game; Jumping, platforming, and SWAPing until I finally talked to Sir Eddler The Mole so he could tell me more lore and make light of his fear of heights or important jewel addiction. Unlocking each area itself was like finding a new toy ...
