Gaming Briefs Wearing Boxers Feb 27, 2026
Another
week of “Dear lord can the news stop?”. Hell, there was even a couple of things
from LAST Week I forgot to go over, just in the large mess of the gaming industry
either announcing things or being on fire. This week seems to be mostly good
news (Except for X-box).
Pokémon had a presentation today
showing off some new collectibles (Not even Kidding I want that Pokémon Game
Music Collection thing that will SURELY be at a reasonable price that isn’t
already sold out because of scalpers), the times and dates of Pokémon XP Fan
Expo and Pokémon World Championships
2026, featuring tournaments for The TCG, Pokémon Go, and Pokémon Unite.
I have
no idea how the hell a Pokémon Go tournament will work
Of
course there was updates and events for the likes of Pokémon Go, Pokémon
Masters EX, and Pokémon Café Remix, and Pokémon TCG Pocket, totally all games I
have a vested interest in.
Pokémon
Sleep has a somewhat creepy trailer showing off nightvision in its announcement
of its new missions.
Moltres,
Zapdos, and Articuno come into play for Pokémon Unite for Pokémon Day.
Pokémon
XD Gale of Darkness comes to the Nintendo
Online for Gameceube service on March 26th.
Pokémon
Fire Red and Leaf Green, which were previously announced earlier last week,
gets confirmation that it will work with Pokémon Home, of which I’d heard
complaints that It wasn’t going to be.
Also
compatible with Pokémon Home is Pokémon Champions, which looks, to me having
been out of the space for a while, something akin to Pokémon Stadium, but with
online competition on both Switch
Consoles in April and mobile later this year.
This
just sounds neat if you’re into competitive Pokémon, can train your Pokémon on
other games and then use Home to compete on a larger scale… Depending on what
standard it uses… I used to do all that kind of thing during the
Diamond/Pearl/Platinum era, and my head now hurts remembering it.
New update for Pokémon Z/A, Mega Dimensions with a new Mega Garchomp Z, using the Garcmopite Ze stone via the Mystery Gift System.

Pokopia,
the town builder cozy game where you play a horrific Ditto child, gains more personalities
in the form of DJ Rotom and Greedant (Cook), as well as showing off the co-op
capabilities in the game. Releases on March 5th.
OH GOD ITS THE THING!
Grumpy, No Thoughts, and Sass.
In the
(Oh yea, One more thing) Category, a very cozy breezy, artful trailer showing a
Pikachu’s adventures in various sketches across all the lands from Kanto to
Alola to Galar and Paldea until a very Tan and Vacation looking pair of Pikachu’s
reveal the NEWEST journey in the series with
the new starters of Browt, Pombon, and Gecqua and a very vast and grand
spectacle with Pokemon Winds and Pokemon Waves.
Look at these vacation relaxed Pikachus. Bet you wish you had a tan like them.
I have
to admit, Pokémon games haven’t looked this good since the DS era. Release set for 2027.
Today, in much more important history, Humble Bundle has put together the ENTIRE MEGA MAN LEGACY COLLECTIONS into one handy dandy bundle. For $50, you can play the entirety of the most important game series there is: Mega Man.

Alright, following up on the X-box
news from last week, Greg Miller, of Kinda Funny Games, has information to lead
many to believe Phil Spencer was forced to retire, especially with how abrupt
it was. Sarah Bond also quitting leads to a lot of speculation that things are
really going badly in the X-Box offices. There is so much more going on with this that I'm sure more leaks will confirm as time goes on.
In a really WILD story that’s still on going, Gamers Nexus put out a video on a story I’ve been following for a little while, where London Police seem to have (allegedly) Falsely arrested a man and confiscated a large amount of his property.
Why is this relevant to some nerd who writes about video games? The property in question were a metric crapton of Dev Kits and discs and drives from a SEGA Office after it was cleaned out and sent to a scrap yard, where Darius Khan (@Dariusaurus on X) had, for all views, legally purchased them, with the later intent to sell to the Video Game Preservation Museum.
Gamers Nexus went onto reveal a
rather shocking connection the London Police’s IP department has directly to companies
like SEGA and Nintendo. There was so much here to, while the legality might be questionable, makes
everyone involved except Darius look shady as all hell, a good watch.

SNK is developing its own Fatal Fury/King of Fighters connected movie/tv show universe. According to @thevscooper over on X, it will be centered on South Town and everyones favorite, Terry Br… I mean Mai. Everyone loves Mai.

As if I didn’t have enough Beat-Em-Up
Joy this year between Marvel Cosmic Invasion, Toxic Crusaders, now Limited Run
Games revealed the MARVEL MaXimum Collection, bringing together a whole cadre
of previously locked to their time period Marvel games, with all the different
version, similar to how the TMNT: Cowabunga Collection did.
The list includes:
Konami’s X-men: The Arcade (Arcade)
Konami’s
Captain America and The Avengers (Arcade, Genesis, 8-Bit)
Spider-Man/Venom:
Maximum Carnage (SNES, Genesis)
Spider-Man/Venom:
Separation Anxiety (SNES, Genesis)
Spider-Man/X-Men: Arcade’s Revenge
(SNES, Genesis, Gameboy, Gamegear)
Silver Surfer (NES) (Yes, THAT
Silver Surfer. The one that made AVGN go ballistic.)
At least half of these games are
really great, but it’s nice to see the other ones here! Now if they can do this
with the 5th and 6th generation titles (Maybe not
including the movie tie-ins) for the next collection, that’d be fantastic. I
also can’t wait to see how they handle Maximum Carnage’s sound track
considering the band Green Jelly used midi cover of Black Sabbath’s Mob Rules.
Speaking of, Insomniac’s Wolverine
game had its release date announced unceremoniously, reportedly due to the date
already being leaked and forcing their hand on the matter, something I see increasingly
nowadays. Release is set for September 15th.
In the anime department, AnimEigo has a series on the creation and end of Central Park Media, who were very influential in the 90’s scene of manga and anime publication in the US. I know I read my share from them, from The Record of Lodoss War manga, to Iriaim: The Zeraim Project, and of course one of my favorite animes of all time, Project A-ko, so seeing this was rather cool.
That’s it for now. A nice, EASY
week of game news. Surely not me just ignoring some of the bigger things
waiting for more news to cover with.
